Each spring, Sugahara unveils its latest creations, and this year is no exception, with 20 new series making their debut. Featuring a wide range of shapes and colors, these designs are crafted to bring beauty and joy to everyday life.
“Sghr imperfect” series showcases glasses with organic lines, air bubbles, and other unique characteristics, making each piece one of a kind. Typically, only the most refined portions of glass, created by melting natural sand at high temperatures, are used in production. However, for this collection, glass that retains its natural and unfiltered quality has been intentionally incorporated. Celebrating the beauty of imperfection, each piece embraces the spontaneous expressions born from the natural materials.
“Charaku” glass is designed for enjoying cold tea, featuring a delicate surface pattern that evokes a refreshing sensation. Made using a mold-blowing technique with a special process to achieve a subtly rough texture, this glass is both comfortable to hold and thoughtfully shaped with a gently flared rim that enhances the aroma of tea.
With its powdered glass base shimmering like fresh fallen snow, the “Konanoyuki” series is crafted with precision to ensure an even, textured application. The opal blue gray evokes the soft hues before sunrise, white reflects the brightness of daylight, and opal brown captures the colors of dusk, each inspired by the way sunlight alters the appearance of color.
The “Yuuhou” series features a distinctive shape that gently cradles plated dishes. Created by a skilled artisan who has created numerous designs and strives for beautiful forms through glassblowing, each piece is meticulously shaped with careful attention to detail and a harmonious balance, including the vessel’s height. The modern color lineup, featuring opaque white, black, and clear, adds to its appeal.
With its rugged, organic form, “Galakolo” single flower vase resembles a natural weathered stone. Crafted through a free form approach that allows the molten glass to move spontaneously, each piece takes on a shape dictated by the dynamic flow of the material. Small yet striking, these vases capture and reflect sunlight beautifully, making them equally compelling as standalone art objects.
“Lucis” showcases a shimmering texture by incorporating mica into glass. Each piece is shaped without a mold, requiring the artisan to carefully gauge the material’s hardness throughout the process. The result is a gracefully fluid design unique to the free-blowing technique.
“Shizuku no hashioki” is a chopstick rest made from a fusion of opaque white and transparent colored glass. Achieving uniformity in such small pieces is a delicate process, requiring precise control of both the amount of glass and its softness to form the signature teardrop shape.
Beyond these featured collections, many other innovative designs have emerged from Sugahara’s skilled artisans. The Sugahara’s new design preview 2025 special website offers ongoing updates on new product stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and in-store event information.
