Kimoto Glass Tokyo Launches New Product “Strata”

Since its founding in Asakusa, Tokyo in 1931, Kimoto Glass Tokyo has collaborated with numerous craftsmen for over 90 years to introduce glass tableware to the world. With a wholesaler’s unique perspective on market trends, the company produces new glass products tailored to modern lifestyles.

The company is also actively engaged in collaborations between craftsmen and designers. In January this year, it exhibited at “Maison&Objet,” an international interior and design trade show held in Paris, France, where it unveiled a new product, “Strata,” at the Edo Tokyo Kirari Project booth.

The glass features a distinctive silhouette when viewed from the side, designed by the up-and-coming French designer unit “Döppel Studio.” The stepped design at the base draws inspiration from Japanese rice terraces, with its beautiful form achieved through the advanced craftsmanship of Edo glass artisans, a traditional craft in Tokyo. The product is available in three sizes: small, medium and large. Whether sipping sake from a small glass or enjoying tea from a larger one, the same design can be appreciated by selecting the size that best suits the purpose and drinking preferences.

With its low center of gravity, the glass is less prone to tipping over, making it an idea gift for auspicious occasions such as wishing for good health or marking important milestones like the launch of a new business. A gift set containing one of each size in a wooden box is also available. The collection is scheduled to go on sale on March 1, 2025.
