Food and Art Festival “TOMORROW FIELD 2024 Fall” to Be Held in Taiza, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture

The food and art festival “TOMORROW FIELD 2024 Fall,” organized by the non-profit organization TOMORROW, will be held from October 25 to November 17, 2024, in the Taiza district of Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture. Previously held as the “ECHO” food and art festival in 2022 and 2023, this event will now be held twice a year, in both fall and spring, under the new name “TOMORROW FIELD.”

“TOMORROW FIELD” will feature special exhibitions by both local and international artists, craftspeople, chefs, photographers, and students at venues such as TAIZA Studio, SEI TAIZA and TAIZA Residence. Additionally, the permanent installation “Field of Stars” at Tomorrow Field in Miya, created primarily by contemporary artist Teresita Fernàndez and woodworker Shuji Nakagawa, will be open to the public. This installation serves as a space for the creation of regenerative art, crafts, and experimental installation. SEI TAIZA, the first art gallery in Taiza, has been transformed from a 60-year-old building that once served as a Tango chirimen (silk) factory, while TAIZA Residence, an art house blending contemporary architecture with natural materials, will also open its door to the public for the first time.

In addition, the special exhibition “Remedy” will be held at SEI KYOTO in Kyoto City from October 31 to November 10, 2024. SEI KYOTO, the headquarters of the non-profit organization TOMORROW, was designed by architect Ryue Nishizawa in collaboration with artisans and reflects the tradition of Kyoto’s machiya (townhouse). This exhibition will showcase wooden boats by Shuji Nakagawa, inspired by ancient views of life and death, and photographic works by Rika Noguchi, taken in Taiza. Concurrently, Kamisoe in Nishijin, Kyoto, will host a joint exhibition by karakami paper artist Koh Kado and glass artist Satoshi Sato, which visitors are also encouraged to explore.

Detailed information about the exhibitions and venues is available on the official website, where tickets can also be purchased online. In conjunction with the fall event, a special one-day guided bus tour of the Taiza district, departing from Kyoto Station is available to apply via online. Semi-customized tour consultations and applications can also be made via the website. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the rich nature and culture of Tango along with the art exhibitions.
