KOGEI Art Fair Kanazawa 2023, an art fair specializing in kogei (crafts), will be held from December 1 to 3, 2023. The venue is the HYATT CENTRIC KANAZAWA in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, as last year. The event, which will exhibit works by up-and-coming young artists as well as internationally renowned artists, will be held in hotel rooms so that visitors can enjoy the works in a more familiar daily life setting. This year’s seventh edition of the event features 40 galleries from Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, including 14 galleries exhibiting for the first time. The works of 209 artists are scheduled to be exhibited, making it the largest-ever exhibition for this art fair. During the period, three tea ceremonies will be held using tea ware and utensils produced by the National Crafts Museum, the only national museum specializing in modern and contemporary crafts and design, together with 12 artists who will lead the future of the craft world. There will also be many special programs, such as visits to artists’ studios and talk events with guests from the world of crafts, touching on the topic of “KOGEI Today.” Kanazawa is a place where various cultural traditions, such as tea ceremony, Zen, and Noh drama, have taken root, and it is also a source of new culture and art. We hope you will visit Kanazawa to discover the “crafts you should get hold of now” and new ways to appreciate them.
