The lustrous vermilion of the jubako layered box captivates the eye. It is designed with minimal ornamentation, which accentuates the meticulous craftsmanship and the beauty of the lacquer work. Wajima lacquerware, which is made by applying jinoko (a mixture of calcined diatomaceous earth, raw lacquer, and glue) to a wooden base covered with cloth and layering lacquer, not only boasts great durability but also increases in color and luster as it is used over the years. This is a masterpiece, reflecting the history and accumulated skill of the craftsmanship of the workshop, that we wish to pass down to future generations.
* We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to those who were affected by the heavy rain on Noto Peninsula in September 2024.
