The “Kokusho Zuikan Vase” was crafted by manually carving patterns into white glass layered over transparent glass, after which another layer of transparent glass was wrapped around it using the blown glass technique. Finally, the white areas are sandblasted, creating a refined appearance where light seems to leak through the lines of transparent glass.
This piece depicts the origin of life. The branching patterns resemble flashes of lightning in the sky, rivers flowing on the earth, and the veins and nerves of living things, shaping reliefs related to life itself. The figure, embodying light essential to the existence of life, represents all forms of life on Earth, truly encompassing the universe. The expression is made possible by the character of glass, a material intrinsically tied to light as it allows for both transparency and encapsulation. Created with advanced skills honed in studios both in Japan and abroad, the work reflects the refined aesthetic sensibility that the artist consciously embodies as part of his identity as a Japanese.
