Lives in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture. With his father also a Bizen ceramic artist, he aspired to be a ceramic artist from an early age. At university, he majored in sculpture. With the sense of creating “objets d’art that can be used,” he pursues his own unique forms in a wood-fired kiln with various colors and techniques of expression unique to Bizen ware, an unglazed yakishime style.
Vivid colors and rich scenery transcending the imagination emerge from nature’s soil and flame. In the process of creating his one-of-a-kind works, the artist’s unwavering challenge is to approach the soil with an open and curious spirit, drawing out its charm while trusting in the power of nature. Takashi’s lifelong passion for creating his own Bizen ware is sure to create a new chapter in the long history of Bizen.
