TOBETOBEKUSA
A ceramic artist based in Iga, Mie Prefecture, originally from Tokyo. Fascinated by pottery from the Momoyama period (1573-1603), Hideki decided to embark on a career in ceramics. After honing his skills through apprenticeship in Shigaraki, he built his own ana-gama “cave” kiln and established the Jinden kiln in Iga. He has been influenced and mentored by Master Sadamitsu Sugimoto, and works in a diverse range of styles including Raku, Yakishime, Ido, and Oribe, using natural materials to express the world of wabi-sabi.
The philosophy of wabi-sabi underlies Hideki Yanashita’s artistic expression. This artist, who earnestly learns from past masters, continues to refine this philosophy daily through his work. The works born on this quest for new heights while using modern materials in the modern era seem to be searching for an essential beauty that never succumbs to the trends of the times.
